Design on a Shoestring Solution
When Madden-McFarland's Keely Hardinger goes “shopping” in her Dad’s basement, she often finds inspiration at the best possible price. She found new purpose and creative potential in two picture frames. She spray painted one a bright yellow, found an unused scrap of wallpaper and hung it on her door. “I love the colors and it’s playful,” says Keely. Keely employed the same technique to a rustic hand-made frame for an upstairs hallway. “I liked that my Dad made it, says Keely. “It makes it personal. And I liked the contrast of a contemporary, almost over-the-top wallpaper pattern, with the rustic character of the weathered wood frame. Back to the door, Keely came up with another fun idea for her front door last summer. “I hung a straw hat on it. It’s fun and different, plus it’s functional - I can just grab it as I head out the door.”
