Marsha Marsden, Allied Member ASID, Designer
It isn’t often that an idea passing through the mind of a junior high school girl becomes a seed that blossoms years later in adulthood. Marsha Marsden is a rare exception. “We were assigned to choose a vocation of interest to research and present before the class,” recalls Marsha. “I chose interior design.” It was a career choice ultimately deferred by family and child-rearing responsibilities. Then, when her children left the nest, she began free lance designing and returned to school where she earned an associate’s degree in interior design. She has worked in the Kansas City area as an interior designer since 1996, joining Madden-McFarland in March, 2006. Marsha brings enthusiasm and a sense of urgency to her client’s projects. She is an effective communicator who follows through.

PERSONAL STATEMENT
My desire is for each interior design project to be an honest collaboration with the client. Their home or office should reflect their personal style and needs. The designer’s role is to enter their space with an educated eye toward helping them with scale, balance, mixing of textures and elements for a cohesive flow. My life and design style are very much influenced by travel, both domestically and abroad. Whenever I visit a European capital or a village in Provence, my favorite destination, I always return inspired by seeing how architecture, art, design elements and cultural symbols come together to give a place its unique identity. I naturally identify with clients who wish to mix “world travel finds” with their décor. There is history and story in an antique, family heirloom or a cultural memento reminding us of a wonderful place we experienced. Our homes are such an important part of who we are, we want to be surrounded by the things that have meaning to us.
